    Smoke In The Grove 2018

We were expecting rain for the whole competition but we lucked out and only had a little Friday night.  We arrived Thursday evening had dinner at a nice Italian place with Dave and Becky and started relaxing and continued at our site afterwards.  Friday morning we set everything up and had a mostly leisurely day.  We cooked our peoples choice pork but early and put it in the cambro for 12 hours.  We used a new method suggested by David Pavone that worked perfectly for peoples voice and we walked away with First Place.  Chicken came out the same as we always do and it was good enough for second place.

The rest of our turn ins were not appreciated by the judges, 54th in ribs for Dead Ass Last, only the second time for us, 30th in Pork, still think it was better than that and 32nd in brisket which it should have been a lot higher.

Congratulations to David Cribs and Rebecca Hersh on there first Back Yard Comp.  Think sometime next year we will see them going Pro.  Thanks to David Pavone on the Pork help and breaking a 2 plus year streak on no Pork calls and Dan Hixon and his rub that got us the first in peoples choice.
